A long time ago, my mentor, the late Bill Brooks, founder and CEO of The Brooks Group taught me that the secret to successful selling is to be in front of a prospect when they are ready to buy, not when you need to make a sale. To do that, you have do exactly what you said -- constantly market and generate leads to find those people who are ready to buy now.

The successful people in sales are often times the most unlikely, I've seen this over and over. Your post is right on. All the sales info, training, tricks, gimmicks, and goo don't amount to a hill of beans if you don't want to help the fellow standing in front of you.I like having a hand in marketing/lead generation too. They say the "big" boys play a numbers game. What that really means is in the quest to help the person who is ready more people are sorted through. It is not always intentional.
