  • Follow Up to Webinar "10 Actions that Produce a Successful Salesperson"

    Greetings

During yesterday's webinar "10 Actions that Produce a Successful Salesperson," we experienced some technical glitches, and I apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused our listeners.  We're working hard to ensure those problems do not happen again.

Nevertheless, for those listeners who listened to any part of the presentation, I want to thank you for your time and attention.  At the end of the call, several of you stayed on line to ask to wonderful questions, and I'd like to address those issues.

First, I talked about the subject of generational differences in the workplace, and a listener asked where they could get some good information on the subject that he could use to better understand his young sales force and to help them better understand the "older" people they sell to.  I'd like to recommend an excellent book.  It's called Bridging the Generation Gap - How to Get Radio Babies, Boomers, Gen Xers, and Gen Yers to work together and Achieve More.  The authors are Lind Gravett and Robin Thockmorton, and the book is published by Career Press, Franklin Lakes, NJ.  The book is available in paperback and lists in the business section for $14.99.

Secondly, another listener asked for a book recommendation on the subject of hiring and managing employees.  A great choice to check out is a book called Hiring, by C.J. Prince.  The book was first published in 2004 by Barnes & Noble, Inc. and offers some great advice for interviewing, negotiating, hiring, training and reviewing performance.  It sells for $9.95.

Third, several listeners liked the action that talked about listening to at least one inspirational message each week.  I thought long and hard about this one - different people like different messages.  Furthermore, the web is loaded with resources on this subject.  However, this morning I received an email from an old acquaintance of mine who I met while I was leading a USO troop entertainment tour a few years ago when I was in the Air Force.  His name is Andy Andrews, and he is one of the best people I know for delivering inspirational messages.  When we visited several overseas American military bases he had his audiences laughing, crying and always thinking.  He was so inspiring that he was invited back to Europe to speak with America's leading military officers in that region of the world.  Andy has authored several easy-to-read books, and he also recommends others authors with interesting and valuable lessons.  Andy's website is: www.AndyAndrews.com and he recently started a blog where you can write to him and ask him for suggestions.

Thanks, Kevin.  I'd like to share another handy resource for hiring:

    > The War for Talent.  The book outlines five imperatives to building a great team and is the extension of a 1997 McKinsey Study.  It's a well-respected source.  It's getting a little older, but I think the ideas are largely timeless.
